General Information
The pituitary gland is a vital gland located at the base of the brain that produces and regulates many hormones in the body. It plays a role in the functioning of numerous hormonal systems, including growth hormone, the thyroid, adrenal glands, and reproductive hormones.
In children, pituitary-related hormonal problems can manifest in various ways, such as slowed growth rate, short stature, delayed or precocious puberty. However, none of these findings alone indicate a pituitary-related disease.
The evaluation considers the child's growth curve, growth rate, developmental process, and clinical findings together. Pituitary function is assessed with hormone tests and other examinations as needed.
