Growth, Development, and Short Stature
Investigating the causes of short stature by evaluating growth rate and development.
General Information
Growth during childhood is shaped by the influence of many interconnected factors. Growth hormone, thyroid hormones, nutrition, sleep quality, and overall health are among the most important of these factors.
Short stature is defined as a child's height falling below the expected percentile for their age. However, a child being shorter than their peers alone does not indicate an endocrinological problem. The family's average height (target height), growth rate, and bone age are evaluated together.
In this evaluation, the target height calculated based on the parents' heights, the child's growth rate, and the trend of the percentile curve provide important guiding information.
