Childhood Obesity
Assessing overweight and obesity in children in conjunction with growth, nutrition, and metabolic health.
General Information
Weight gain in children can result from a combination of factors including nutrition, physical activity, sleep, genetic characteristics, and hormonal and metabolic factors. Therefore, assessment is not solely based on the child's weight.
It is important to evaluate weight and height changes together during the growth period. In addition to body weight, the growth curve, dietary habits, daily activity level, and family history are also included in the assessment.
If necessary, blood sugar, lipid, liver function, and hormonal evaluations can be performed to investigate any accompanying metabolic problems.
