General Information
Thyroid hormones play a crucial role in growth, brain development, energy utilization, and metabolic processes in children. Underactive or overactive thyroid glands can manifest with various symptoms during childhood.
Symptoms of thyroid disorders may include changes in growth rate, weight changes, palpitations, fatigue, sweating, or changes in bowel habits. However, symptoms may not appear the same in every child.
The evaluation considers the child's growth and development, physical examination findings, and, if necessary, thyroid hormone and antibody tests.
